Application For Permanent Residence Permit
Retired Permit
Retired Non-Citizen Residence Permit
If you are 50 years or older, retiring in Mauritius can be an ideal lifestyle choice. Enjoy the island’s beaches, explore its natural treasures, and take part in outdoor activities such as hiking in a peaceful and privileged environment.
The Residence Permit for Retired Non-Citizens allows you to live in Mauritius for a maximum period of 10 years, renewable under established criteria. After three consecutive years of residence, you may apply for a Permanent Resident Permit.
To be eligible for the 20-year Permanent Residence Permit as a retired non-citizen, you must have held a Retired Non-Citizen Residence Permit for at least 5 years and transferred, in installments or otherwise, a total of at least USD 200,000 (or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency) over a consecutive 5-year period immediately preceding the application.
As a permit holder, you may invest in any business in Mauritius, provided that you do not work in the business or receive any salary or employment benefits.

Eligibility Requirements for the Retired Non-Citizen Permit:
To apply for a Retired Permit valid for 10 years
- An initial transfer of at least USD 2,000 into a local bank account within 60 days of permit issuance.
- Thereafter, a regular transfer of USD 2,000 per month or USD 24,000 per year is required to maintain the permit.
Additional Important Information:
- The application can be completed entirely online via the National Electronic Licensing System (NELS), without the need to travel to Mauritius.
- Foreign retirees may purchase residential property under approved schemes (IRS, RES, PDS, SCS) or an apartment in a building with at least ground plus two floors.
- Dependents (spouse, opposite-sex partner, parents, and unmarried children) are eligible for a residence permit of equivalent duration.
- Applications through NELS are free; only the statutory fees prescribed by law are payable to the Government of Mauritius upon approval.
