Golden Visa Mauritius: your new golden ticket in 2026
The Cabinet decision of 10 April 2026 formally introduces the Golden Visa and associated accelerated processing measures. This scheme is part of a broader resilience plan, decided at an emergency meeting of the Crisis Committee held on 8 April under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. With the ceasefire he himself described as fragile, the Prime Minister made clear that immediate, medium and long-term strategies had to be adopted without delay.
Against this backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the Golden Visa is no longer a conventional residency route — it has become the primary relocation mechanism for investors and families seeking a neutral, stable, and well-regulated jurisdiction.
1. Fast-track execution: EDB processing framework
The Golden Visa removes the main administrative barriers to relocation. The Economic Development Board (EDB) commits to a standard processing time of five working days. A dedicated concierge service supports applicant onboarding upon arrival, ensuring seamless administrative continuity for HNWIs and executive-level profiles whose mobility requirements are time-sensitive.
Importantly, the application is entirely free of charge — no processing fee applies. Submissions are made through the EDB online portal, making this one of the most accessible Golden Visa schemes currently available internationally.
2. Residency financial framework and compliance parameters
The Golden Visa 2026 is defined by formal eligibility thresholds. Magellan ensures full pre-validation of application files in line with EDB requirements prior to submission.
| Criteria | Requirement |
| Source of funds | 100% foreign-sourced income (non-Mauritius origin) |
| Minimum financial capacity | USD 1,500 per principal applicant |
| Dependants | USD 500 per child |
| Validity | 2 years, renewable, multiple entry |
| Processing time | 5 working days via EDB portal |
| Processing fee | None — 100% free application via EDB portal |
The visa covers the principal applicant, their spouse and all dependent children. A single application secures the relocation of the entire family.
Required documents
The following documents are required to submit a complete application file:
- Completed Golden Visa application form (online)
- Biodata page of valid passport
- Passport-sized photograph
- Copy of return airline ticket (minimum 6 months validity)
- Proof of accommodation (hotel, rental or host letter)
- Bank statements — last 3 months
- Proof of monthly income / employment contract
- Dependent documents (marriage/birth certificates)
3. Fiscal structuring and asset positioning
Expenditure incurred locally using foreign-issued cards is not treated as taxable income, unless repatriated to a Mauritian financial institution.
Visa holders may acquire real estate under approved residential schemes, including the Property Development Scheme (PDS), Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), and Smart City projects — a benefit expressly provided for within the Golden Visa framework.
Magellan aligns structuring with Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) requirements to support potential tax residency qualification after 183 days, subject to applicable statutory provisions.
4. The Golden Visa as a gateway to the Occupation Permit
The Golden Visa is a first step, not an endpoint. Holders may apply for an Occupation Permit or a Retirement Residence Permit from within Mauritius, without having to leave the country. The EDB Fast-Track applies equally to this transition, reducing processing times between the two regimes.
For entrepreneurs scoping the Mauritian market before committing to a full Occupation Permit, or for families of existing OP holders seeking to regularise their status, this pathway represents a significant operational advantage. Magellan anticipates and prepares this transition from the outset of the initial application.
5. Corporate relocation and financial services licensing
The Cabinet framework includes accelerated licensing procedures for financial service providers. The Registrar of Companies (ROC) and the Financial Services Commission (FSC) operate streamlined processes for corporate redomiciliation and regulatory approvals.
This commitment goes beyond standard regulatory procedure: a high-level monitoring mechanism, chaired directly by the Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, has been established to resolve bottlenecks in real time and ensure operational continuity for structures in the process of transfer.
Magellan manages corporate transfers to ensure full compliance with local regulatory requirements and due diligence standards.
5. Why Mauritius? The indicators speak for themselves
Mauritius has built a solid reputation as a safe haven jurisdiction, underpinned by strong international governance metrics:
- Governance: ranked first in the Ibrahim Index of African Governance for 10 consecutive years
- Business environment: ranked first in Africa in the Ease of Doing Business framework
- Connectivity: ranked fourth globally in the Work from Wherever Index
The Magellan approach

Magellan removes the administrative and technical barriers to your relocation, ensuring full compliance with Mauritian legal and fiscal requirements — and managing the transition from your existing structure to your new resident status.”
Securing the transition
The Golden Visa serves a broad range of profiles: HNWIs and strategic investors, internationally mobile C-suite executives, digital nomads and remote workers, retirees, entrepreneurs scoping the market ahead of an Occupation Permit, frequent travellers seeking a long-stay base, and families of existing OP or Retirement Permit holders.
Magellan provides end-to-end support across relocation processes, including due diligence, structuring, and administrative filings with relevant authorities.
